FAMILIES
Q: My child does not seem to have any remorse around his actions. Do children with FASD have a conscience?
A: Many children with FASD have a hard time connecting actions with consequences or don't understand how their behavior affects others. They need to be explicitly taught. Developmental dysmaturity also can come into play here.

EDUCATION
Q: My request for assessment was denied and I was told my child must try RTI first, what should I do?
A: "On January 21, 2011 OSEP's Director Melody Musgrove sent a memo to state directors of special education to clarify that RTI strategies can not be used to delay or deny timely evaluation for students suspected of having a disability." A letter should be written, citing this memo and a reminder that the school must maintain the timeline from your original request date.
